CARBOTEC NIR - CO₂ (optical)
CARBOTEC NIR is an optical CO₂ sensor for the continuous measurement of dissolved carbon dioxide in liquids. Designed for applications requiring high sensitivity and very high measurement accuracy – with straightforward operation and minimal maintenance .
Application
CARBOTEC NIR is a highly accurate optical carbon dioxide sensor for measuring "pure" CO₂ content in:
- Soft drinks
- mineral water
Dissolved CO₂ has a significant influence on product quality and taste – therefore, stable inline monitoring in the process is a key component for reproducible results .
Measurement principle (ATR / NIR)
The new generation of CARBOTEC NIR sensors is based on Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) :
- Near-infrared (NIR) light is passed through a sapphire crystal .
- The NIR light is reflected multiple times at the inner surfaces of the crystal, while the outer surfaces are in contact with the carbonated liquid .
- CO₂ molecules absorb the specific wavelength of the transmitted light – therefore, each reflection reduces the intensity according to the CO₂ content in the product.
- The CO₂ content is determined from this change in intensity .
Robust measurement in the real process
The measurement result is not affected by:
- other gases in the product
- Color
- Turbidity
- viscosity
Temperature drifts of the measurement signal are automatically compensated by an internal Pt100 sensor .
