The system is designed to continuously adjust the CO2 content in a product to the required level. Highly efficient membrane modules enable the CO2 concentration to be increased and decreased with exceptional accuracy. Simultaneously, the oxygen content is reduced. Each module contains thousands of hydrophobic, gas-permeable hollow fiber membranes, resulting in a large surface area. This large surface area maximizes the exchange area and contact time between the product and the gas. While CO2 is applied to the inside of the hollow fibers, the product flows countercurrently between them on the outside. Depending on the CO2 partial pressure difference between the product and the gas, the CO2 passes through the membranes, either from the membranes into the product or from the product into the membranes. This fundamental scientific principle is described by Henry's Law. The CO2 content in the carbonated product is continuously monitored. For this purpose, the system is equipped with a high-precision CARBOTEC sensor from Centec. Centec has decades of experience in the development and manufacture of its own precision instruments for CO2 control. Based on this accurate in-line measurement, the carbon dioxide flow is adjusted immediately and fully automatically. The O2 content is measured using proven optical OXYTRANS sensor technology from Centec.
