EXTRACT MONITOR

The EXTRACT MONITOR is an inline instrument for extract measurement (°Plato) during production. Depending on the version, it uses the functionality of RHOTEC (density measurement) or SONATEC (sound velocity measurement). The device is designed for applications requiring maximum sensitivity and highest accuracy – with easy operation and maintenance-free performance.

Application

The EXTRACT MONITOR is used in the brew house of the brewery. Extract measurement is typically carried out:

  • during lautering
  • during wort boiling

What does the EXTRACT MONITOR measure?

  • Extract / °Plato in the process (inline measurement)

Depending on the version, the measurement is based on density or sound velocity.

Measurement Principle – depending on the version

1) RHOTEC version (density measurement)

  • The liquid flows through a thin, U-shaped tube inside the sensor.
  • Electromagnets excite the tube to oscillate at its resonance frequency.
  • An internal reference oscillator measures the oscillation behavior.
  • Even the smallest density changes influence the measurement signal and are detected with the highest precision.

2) SONATEC version (sound velocity measurement)

  • A sound pulse is generated by a piezo element in an ultrasonic transmitter.
  • It travels perpendicular to the product flow toward an ultrasonic receiver, where it is detected.
  • Since the distance between transmitter and receiver is known, the sound velocity is determined via the measured transit time.

Evaluation (Concentration / Extract)

As a specific property of every liquid, the relationship between concentration and density or sound velocity can be described by a mathematical polynomial. With decades of experience and its own laboratory facilities, polynomials are available for a large number of products.

Temperature Compensation

Temperature drift of the measurement signal is automatically compensated by an internal Pt1000 sensor.
