 Typical CIP cycle
 
 A CIP cycle consists of several coordinated steps, for example:
 
 
 
 Pre-rinse with treated water
 
 
 Rinsing with alkalis and acids
 
 
 Intermediate and final rinsing with treated water
 
 
 Depending on the task: use of chemicals/cleaning agents to increase cleaning effectiveness
 
 

 
 Consumption logic: “Lost cleaning” or “Batch CIP”
 
 Depending on the system design, the cleaning medium is changed after each step:
 
 
 
 directed into the drain (lost cleaning)
 
 
 or
 
 
 
 returned to storage tanks and reused later (stack CIP)
