BRIX MONITOR – Inline Brix measurement

The Brix Monitor is an inline instrument for determining the sugar content (°Brix) during ongoing processes. Depending on the model, the system utilizes the functionality of RHOTEC (density measurement) or SONATEC (sound velocity measurement) . Designed for applications requiring high sensitivity and high measurement accuracy , it is straightforward to operate and designed for low maintenance .


Application
The Brix Monitor is a variant of RHOTEC or SONATEC and allows the measurement of sugar content:

  • in the syrup used in production

  • in the finished drink


Measurement principle (depending on the version)

  • RHOTEC – Density measurement
    The product flows through a thin, U-shaped tube inside the sensor. Electromagnets excite the tube to oscillate at its resonant frequency . An internal reference oscillator detects the oscillation behavior. Even the smallest changes in density affect the signal and are precisely detected.

  • SONATEC – Sound velocity measurement
    A piezoelectric element generates a sound pulse in the ultrasonic transmitter. This pulse travels perpendicular to the product flow to the receiver, where it is detected. The sound velocity is determined from the known distance and the measured travel time.


Evaluation (concentration reference)
The relationship between concentration and density , or sound velocity, is described by a mathematical polynomial . Centec utilizes many years of experience and its own laboratory facilities, providing polynomial data for a large number of products.


Temperature compensation
Temperature drifts of the measurement signal are automatically compensated via an internal Pt1000 sensor .
